Nubuk Suede Leather Care Set Colourlock - Nubuck and suede are polished leathers with a velvety surface. These leather types are often grouped together under the general terms "rough leather" and "suede." They are characterized by a pleasant, warm feel and an attractive texture, but they are also delicate. Over time, suede can become shiny and greasy, stain more easily, and fade more quickly. Careful care and timely cleaning will help keep these leathers beautiful for a long time.
Coarse- and open-pored leathers, such as vintage leather, semi-nubuck, some thick or oiled leathers, and buffalo leather, also require special care. These leathers are also very beautiful and develop a characteristic patina over time.
For daily cleaning, it is sufficient to occasionally dust the leather with a feather duster, a dry duster, or a soft brush. For new leather pieces that require care due to heat or sunlight, we recommend the Aniline & Suede Protector. This conditions the leather and protects it from drying out and fading. If there is a risk of stains, the leather should also be treated with a waterproofing agent.
Tip: Even well-cared-for suede remains sensitive to stains. Therefore, caution is the best protection!
Application description:
First, absorb fresh stains with a terry cloth or household towel by pressing it between your fingers without rubbing. This could damage the pile. Residual stains can be carefully cleaned with a slightly damp terry cloth. Avoid excessive moisture to prevent streaks. Dry the damp area with cold air from a hairdryer and lighten any remaining darkened areas with the leather sanding pad. Slightly greasy areas can also be roughened with the sanding pad.
Always test on an inconspicuous area first! For difficult stains, it is advisable to contact a specialist to avoid major damage.
For already stained or shiny suede, we recommend using the nubuck set. The set contains a leather sanding pad and a nubuck eraser to clean and restore the leather. The leather sanding pad is an abrasive foam with two equally grained sides for removing stains over large areas and for slightly greasy areas. The nubuck eraser is designed for stubborn, dried-in individual stains.
Wet cleaners are not very effective on suede and can leave marks. However, removable leather covers can be washed by hand or in the washing machine with our leather detergent. Re-impregnation is also recommended here.
For slightly greasy suede where sanding is not sufficient, a slightly damp cloth with degreaser can be used. Be careful not to get too wet or rub too hard, and allow the leather to dry between applications.
For fresh grease or oil stains and heavily greasy areas, use COLOURLOCK Degreaser Spray. Darker, not very faded suede can be color-refreshed with our Nubuk Fresh.
Unfortunately, these materials are delicate and rarely look like new after cleaning and care. However, you can achieve optimal care with the recommended products. In cases of extreme soiling or fading, we recommend contacting a specialist and sending photos for inspection.
Suede leather should always be treated after every cleaning. The Aniline Protector provides essential re-greasing and UV protection, protects the leather from fading, and keeps it supple. If subject to heavy wear, the leather should be treated every year at the latest. Depending on wear, heat, and light intensity, the leather should be treated sparingly every 3 to 12 months. Regular, sparing treatment is better than infrequent, excessive applications.
The waterproofing protects open-pored leather (suede, aniline leather) and delicate textiles from stains. It is applied to stain-sensitive areas after every cleaning or care treatment. Spray thinly and evenly from a distance of approximately 40 cm and allow to dry. Re-spray heavily used areas if necessary. Regular, economical treatment is better than infrequent, excessive application.
One nubuck set is sufficient for at least one cleaning and care treatment for a carefully treated suede leather set.
